EPHESIANS 3:17-19
so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Recently Houston, TX faced a cold front. Temperatures dropped below freezing and wiped out all the plants at my church. What was once bright and green turned brown and ugly overnight. A lawn keeper came and cut away all the lifeless plants at the stem. A week later the plants were back again, bright and as green as ever! I was shocked and someone explained to me, “Those plants had strong roots. You can cut the plant off at the stem, but if the root is grounded, it will reproduce again.” What looked dead on the outside wasn’t dead at all because it was anchored to the ground and its root system was still in place. When you are rooted and grounded in God’s love, life’s problems can come—and the problems might be harsh, like a cold front—but they will not destroy you because you are firmly planted in God’s love.
When God’s great love grows deep down inside you and takes root, you can be confident in Him; you can experience and know Him more; you can obey his commandment to love others; you can be filled with all of God. How do you let God’s great love grow deep inside you? Have faith in God! Read His word. Believe His word. Know His word. Speak His word. And abide in His Word.
